Apple Express Tourist Train

This famous narrow-gauge tourist train is a popular icon in the Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Apple Express Train travels regularly between Port Elizabeth and Thornhill Village covering approximately 53km of spectacular terrains. 

The train temporarily stops at the highest narrow-gauge bridge in the world, namely the Van Stadens River Bridge, in order for passengers to disembark and stroll across the structure and admire the awesome scenery. Afterwards, the Apple Express train slowly puffs across the bridge which allows for splendid picture postcard opportunities.

A picnic area is available at the Thornhill Hotel and visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic to enjoy with friends and family.

The Apple Express departs from Thornhill after a two hour stop to return to the Nelson Mandela Bay.

Tickets cost R130-00 for adults and R65-00 for children from the ages of 3-12 years. The duration of the excursion is from 9.30am - to 4.15pm.
