Carnival Opening for Revamped Govan Mbeki Street

The upgrade of Govan Mbeki street is being undertaken in phases. Phase 1 is to be opened on November 30 and stretches from Market Square to Donkin Street. This upgrade cost R31 million. Phase 2 extends from Donkin Street to Russell Road and will start in January. Its estimated cost is R25 million.
Phase 1 is complete and a colourful carnival, including clowns and magicians, will mark the grand opening of the new-look at the end of November.
This carnival signifies the successful implementation of one of the many urban renewal projects underway.
An abundance of entertainment is lined up for the evening including music, clowns, magicians and more!
The opening of the first phase of the street marks the implementation of the first infrastructure project in the central business district in 20 years!
Yes, the Nelson Mandela Bay is being revitalised and improved. This project has been a complete success! It seems as if life has been breathed into Port Elizabeth’s lungs as numerous developments and improvements are occurring all over the city.
