Carnival Opening for Revamped Govan Mbeki Street

Situated in Port Elizabeth, Govan Mbeki street has undergone major developments and improvements in the past year. What was at first a laughed at idea has now become a successful achievement!

The upgrade of Govan Mbeki street is being undertaken in phases. Phase 1 is to be opened on November 30 and stretches from Market Square to Donkin Street. This upgrade cost R31 million. Phase 2 extends from Donkin Street to Russell Road and will start in January. Its estimated cost is R25 million.

Phase 1 is complete and a colourful carnival, including clowns and magicians, will mark the grand opening of the new-look at the end of November.

This carnival signifies the successful implementation of one of the many urban renewal projects underway.
