Exhibition on Bay‘s Past and Future
Filed in: All, CalendarPort Elizabeth‘s gorgeous architectural heritage and its plans for the future are being celebrated in two rather unusual exhibitions of drawings, paintings as well as photographs at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum in St George‘s Park.
Known as “Images of Madiba Bay”, the two exhibitions will include pictures from the art museum‘s historic collection and will present a phenomenal collection looking at images painted down the years of Port Elizabeth‘s inner city as well as a series of photographs documenting the Mandela Bay Development Agency‘s progress in transforming the Govan Mbeki Avenue.
This exhibition will not only reflect the future and showcase how the city will look once the rejuvenation is complete, but also the beauty of the past both structurally and naturally.
This excellent exhibition will be open to all the people of Port Elizabeth.
The exhibition will start with a fascinating lithograph of the first blockhouse on the banks of the shimmering Baakens River, and then continues in a sequence to end with an image by Trevor Melville reflecting back on the history of the city. Interestingly, some of the magnificent works on display are from the municipality‘s own collection which are rather old and interesting to witness.
The exhibition has now been extended to April 13.
