Savoy Sundays
Filed in: After Dark, Activities, AllSundays are usually spent relaxing and preparing for another week of turmoil. Yet, for those who would prefer to get out and enjoy some great entertainment, relaxing may seem rather boring.
Now, the gorgeous Savoy theatre will be offering Savoy Sundays. The idea behind this is to establish the theatre as a venue for exciting Sunday night musical entertainment.
The first event will be titled Femme Fatale and will feature three talented music groups, each fronted by a woman singer. Theatre personality Niqui Cloete Barass fronts a new band called Gumbo, which also features Colin Lyall on rhythm guitar, Kurt Heidemann on bass as well as Kristo Zondagh on percussion. The group performs some fantastic originals and numerous covers of funky comedy songs. The next act will be the duo of Marelise Booyens and Anton Schmidt, who will perform a jazzy cabaret set. The evening ends off with Claire Haremse and her folk-influenced rock group known as Happenstance. After the interval, Cloete- Barass will turn from singer to MC, co-ordinating an open microphone session for aspiring musicians. Yes, there is something for everyone.
This exciting event will concentrate on music, while at the same time cater for comedy, drama and dance at future events.
No more boring Sundays! Now all can enjoy entertaining Sunday evenings out in the Nelson Mandela Bay.
