Charlo Primary School
The Charlo suburb in Port Elizabeth is very beautiful with lovely tall trees and lush gardens. Charlo Primary, therefore, is situated in an ideal place.
Charlo Primary School was founded in January 1974 and obviously named after the lovely suburb in which it was built. The Charlo suburb was developed on a farm of the late Mr Charles Lovemore. Their graves can still be seen today on Lovemore Heights. The name Charlo is derived from the first four letters of the owner’s name and the first two letters of the owner’s surname. In 1974, the school had an initial enrolment of 21 learners and through the years grew to be the school it is today. Today, they boast over 500 learners who find their happiness at Charlo Primary School and who have gained a true sense of belonging.
The first principal, named Mr OB Heunis, designed the School Badge. This badge, with the motto FAITH, is one that is very familiar throughout Port Elizabeth.
The second principal, named Mr JR Viljoen, was the principal for almost 20 years! He designed the previously worn school uniform before it was replaced by the current school tracksuit. He and fellow staff members were also the composers of the school song.
At Charlo Primary School, they educate both boys and girls of 4-13 years. Presently, they boast 2 classes in every grade from grade R to grade 7. There is a class in each grade for the Afrikaans learners as well as a class in each grade for the English learners. They grade R classes are preceded by a middle pre-primary and junior pre-primary class.
