Theodor Herzl

Theodor Herzl is a multi-cultural private school, rooted in Jewish and universal values, committed to developing excellence in the individual within a community that respects all its different cultures. It is a vibrant school and boasts a preschool, primary and high school nestled between beautiful tall trees and wide open fields.

In January 1959, the first Sub A class was established. From these humble beginnings has grown a school that has built a solid academic record. In fact, Theodor boasts a 100% pass rate in Gr. 12 for the past 29 years and for the last 5 years all but 3 candidates obtained a Matriculation Exemption. In 2000 Theodor Herzl was rated by the Sunday Times as the top academic school in South Africa. In 2004 they were one of only 18 schools that achieved a 100% pass rate as well as a 100% rate of Matriculation Exemption. The entire class, therefore, had access to tertiary study.

Theodor boasts an array of exciting subjects, activities and sports! Besides the obvious subjects, additional fantastic subjects include Hebrew, French, Speech and Drama and Human and Social Science.

Speech and drama, Art, Music and Singing, Computer Studies, Guidance, Study Skills, Library and General Knowledge are all offered as part of the curriculum. There is a Science and Technology room which is a hive of activity throughout the term as the various classes use the facility to experiment and investigate the various tasks given to them. Sports include Chess, Cricket, Cross Country, Hockey, Soccer, Syncro, Swimming and Tennis. The School even offers the International Computer Drivers’ Licence Course. This is an internationally recognised computer proficiency course presented by the NMMU on the School Premises.
