Victoria Park High School

Victoria Park High School is one of the best government schools in Port Elizabeth. In fact, it was ranked in the Sunday Times as one of the top high schools in South Africa.

Nestled between a magnificent park and tall trees, Victoria Park High School has much to boast. Only the highest quality of education by excellent qualified teachers is taught to pupils. What stands out the most about this amazing school is that it boasts a disciplined environment, not a heavy-handed and authoritarian discipline, but one in which people can grow and have the space to be themselves, and yet they know that there are boundaries.

The school was established in January 1940, and was situated in the Dutch Reformed Church hall in South End. The first day saw an enrolment of 38 grade 9 pupils, 1 assistant woman teacher and the Headmaster Mr. H.W. Arnott. He developed the schools motto: “Vivite Fortes”, meaning “Live, Challenge, and Dare”. In 1941, a grade 10 was added, along with an extra teacher. When Mr. Arnott returned in 1945 after service in the war, the school had moved to its present site at the junction of Victoria Park Drive and First Avenue Walmer, as well as having classes from grade 9 to Matric.

Victoria park High School offers an array of subjects, sports, activities and societies. Sports include: Athletics, canoeing, tennis, soccer, golf, boys and girls cricket, boys and girls hockey, cross country, netball, sailing, mountain-biking, rugby, squash, surfing and swimming! Clubs and societies include: NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute), JCC (Junior City Council), GAP (Gods Amazing People), Band, Interact, Hiking Club, Ballroom Dancing, Xhosa Society, PAW (Protecting Animals Worldwide), toastmasters, first aid, VIP editorial committee, chess club and the debating society. There are plenty of activities your child can get involved in! At Victoria Park High School, your child will find somewhere to belong.

Victoria Park High has a special ethos all of its own. With a high level of education, fantastic array of sports and activities, excellence and discipline yet in a relaxed atmosphere, pupils feel welcome and happy.

They are dedicated to your child’s educational welfare and provide only the best. There is no doubt that Victoria Park is a preferred high school amongst many!
