Shawn Phillips to Record Live Album in PE
Filed in: AllWell known and talented US folk/rock legend Shawn Phillips will be recording his performance on Friday at the Old Cash Store for a double album due for international release early next year.
Shawn Phillips was recently in Johannesburg for the launch of his DVD known as ‘Living Contribution’ filmed at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and was asked by his record company, Sheer Music, to produce an acoustic album to be released with the soundtrack from the DVD. Interestingly, even though he was approached by several highly regarded venues in Johannesburg to record the live show, he chose to perform in the place which he views as very much his hometown, Port Elizabeth. In fact, Shawn relates how he cannot imagine living anywhere else in the world. Shawn has been living in Port Elizabeth since 2004 and is a full crew member of the NSRI.
The double album, known as Shawn Phillips Live, will feature the six-piece band soundtrack from Kirstenbosch with the second disc being the performance at The Old Cash Store. The double album as well as DVD will be launched in the US and Canada in March 2008 and in Europe in April 2008.
After 20 previous studio albums, this will be the first live project Phillips has ever undertaken. The CDs will feature many of Phillip‘s well known and lively songs.
