Willard Batteries

Willard Batteries started trading in January 1954. The manufacturing operation and offices are situated right in the friendly city of Port Elizabeth.

Initially, the company concentrated on the manufacture of automotive batteries. They soon gained a desirable reputation for the excellence of their product quality. The first industrial batteries were produced in 1966 for the SATS Diesel Electronic Locomotives, then built by General Electric.

More than 50 fantastic years later of development and growth, Willard Batteries continues to strive to exceed their customers’ expectations through superior service and product quality. Backed by the Altron and Powertech Group of Companies, Willard Batteries has become a secure, highly reliable and trustworthy company, employing more than 1000 people countrywide.

Willard Batteries has a highly developed distribution network throughout South Africa to provide customers with quality products and technical service.

Willard Batteries boasts a rather unique position in the South African battery manufacturing sector, in that it was the first local battery manufacturer to be awarded the Quality Management System 0157 Part II listing for the automotive production facility and most recently for their Industrial operation. In addition, Willard Batteries hold the Ford Q101 rating which was awarded in 1995 and currently hold a VDA 6 rating of 88% as well as a VDA 6 process audit rating of 92%.

They also boast a Technological Agreement with Moll Batteries in Germany and Johnson Controls in the USA and are currently manufacturing in the order of 1.2 million batteries per annum!
